Blue is a more common colour than I would have thought, given its vaunted status as an ideal (blonde hair, blue eyes…)

I want to see green eyes and grey eyes.

Is it possible to have violet or golden eyes? What other colours are possible?

As for me, I really should get around to trying out colour contacts.

Found this stuck to one of the pillars in my basement car park.

My workspace has 3 female associates. We dislike babies and shiny law students. We also have a predilection for passive aggressive notes (”painfully polite and hilariously hostile writings from shared spaces the world over”).

As my 2 readers know, I’m currently living in an apartment block. I haven’t lived in such high density since I was 8 (apartment block in Amherst). My initiation into this whole notes business started soon after I started living at Bent St Apartments, when everyone was sent a note from building management to stop leaving their bikes in the shared corridors. Does it count as a PAN if it’s from an authoritative body? I say yes.

There were about 3 other bikes parked similarly on my floor so I ignored said notes and continued to lock my bike up outside my apartment door as it was more convenient. After that they started stapling notes to our bikes. Okay there was one person who still flaunted authority. I followed suit. Then one day that bike disappeared and I found a handwritten note stuck to my bike. It wasn’t signed but carried the same “if you don’t move your bike we’ll move it for you” tone. I think it said “you are the only one left who continues to flaunt the rules, etcetc”. I should have taken a photo before tossing it out. It actually made me a bit angry :/

Anyway, here’s one that occurred in my building recently. These asian kids (gah, giving the rest of us a bad name!) couldn’t handle their alcohol and the girl threw up in the lift lobby at 2 am on a Saturday. This present a problem because the cleaners only come in on weekdays, so for pretty much the whole weekend the place stinks! Someone also threw up near the keycard proximity sensor. And since that’s the only way to *enter* the building, it was a bit of a problem for me (luckily there are at least 2 other exits through fire escape doors).

(Click through for bigger photos)

Thankfully it doesn’t happen often.
I also love how building management don’t even have their own domain name for their email address. Professional.

I had a fun time guillotining paper. I printed out labels for the divider cards/title sheets too!
I could only use default windows fonts because *ahem* I was using work computer to print the labels. I used the Sydnie font which I’ve never used before but now quite like. It’s not overly decoratively tacky like Comic Sans MS (-disgust-) or boring like Times and Garamond. Helvetica and Dotum lack personality, and since it is my hPDA I want something that speaks of me. Normally I’d pick something like fixedsys for its retro-geeky cool, but it, and Kartika unfortunately didn’t look good at 20 points. And so I discovered Sydnie.

My hPDA structure:

Transparent plastic sheet for protection

Title sheet “hPDA” - heavy paper in orange

For rough notes and other misc items - white paper

Title sheet “Work - Priority” - heavy paper in pink

For priority work to do - red paper

Title sheet “Work - to do” - heavy paper in yellow

To do list of items related to work - yellow paper

Title sheet “Personal - Priority” - blue card

To do list of priority personal items - blue paper

Title sheet “Personal - to do” - heavy paper in dark green

To do list of personal items - light green paper

Transparent plastic sheet for protection

All held together with a simple bulldog clip, for now. Shall punch holes and swap them with a ring when I get my ring thingies from Melbourne.

I’ve been using it for a little over a week now. Sadly, I keep leaving it at work and forgetting to take it with me.

I think I should get rid of the work sections because I only think of work stuff when I am *at* work while I am at my work computer where I keep my master “to do” list and thus have no need for the hPDA.

I spend way too much time with computers - I don’t have much use for a hPDA when I spend so much time on them as the hPDA is meant to be a stop-gap for things occur for me to do and I cannot note them down on my primary to do lists on my computers.

…I suppose that means I should get out more :/

Today I’m going to write one of those typical boring blog posts about my day (e.g. do I really need to know you ate toast for breakfast, or forgot your homework during Math class?!!!). But I figure it’s okay to be self-indulgent today, for today is…

MY BIRTHDAY!!!!

Speaking of bloggers. I really cannot stand those teens who type with super bad grammar and using teeny net abreviations/lingo (example). Even though I have a penchant for bimbo blogs I have to draw the line somewhere.

Maybe my proofreading is not perfect either but at least I don’t spell badly on purpose. And whatever I wrote before 2005 does not count because I have mended my ways! In fact I’m so disgusted by this teeny bopper speech I’m thinking of using perfect English in chats too >_>
… but Lolcat speech is still cool!

Went to town today to get a garment bag. Got one at David Jones - $149 for a rather solid bag - had a $100 DJs gift voucher my parents gave me as a graduation present but they said they’d top up the extra $49. Yay!

Yep, I’ve been dragging my suit(s) around in the cheap plastic bag they came in. I decided finally that I’ve been putting off the purchase of a proper garment bag for too long!!

I have a job interview via video conferencing for a research assistant position at the Federal Court on Wednesday 10am. It’s going to be mega intensive…1 hour interview then 90 minute TEST. Plz to be dying now.

Then I have a flight to Canberra on the same day at 3.30 PM. It’s going to be tight but I should be alright.

Got another interview in Sydney on the following weekend, 4 August. And that’s why I had to get the garment bag. BECAUSE I AM NOT DRAGGING MY SUIT AROUND IN THAT STUPID FLIMSY PLASTIC BAG ANY LONGER!!!!!!

Whee!

It’s got so many pockets and things! You could almost not pack another bag >_>
Bit heavy though; 3 kilos.

Visited the Bourke St DJs food market place for the first time. I really like it! It’s very busy and there’s tons of people there eating. I enjoyed looking at the $300/kg spanish prosciutto o.O. And I thought the $120/kg wagyu beef prosciutto was bad enough!!

However their vanilla slice is much much crappier than Adelaide’s
I’m just going to have to pig out on vanilla slice when/if I go back to Adelaide. Normally I say I only eat vanilla slice from DJs, but I suppose now I’ll have to specify *Adelaide DJs* now. Yur. Normal vanilla slice is always too thick and dense for me. Adelaide’s is light and fluffy >_<

I was at the food market area because I wanted to buy my birthday cake - DJs chocolate mousse cake! Which after Cheesecake Shoppe's Pavlova topper is probably my most favouritest of cakes. Light and fluffy! Yes. I dislike dense sweets - too cloying.

And here's my bag count for the day:
1 Chloe
2 LVs
2 Balenciagas (1 fake?)

Not really many, but then I wasn't there for very long and I spent a long time obsessing over which garment bag to buy too.

Over the last few days I have been enthralled by Snapfish. It’s one of those sites that make their money off photo printing. You can have online photo albums (unlimited storage) too that you can invite your friends/relatives to see, however, and here’s the crux, you can’t use the images externally. Have to say the uploading process is very interestingly coded!! It’s MSIE only though (blegh). Anyway the only reason I’m using it is because you can get a free 20 page 11.5″ x 8.5″ hardback photo album. Just pay $4.95 shipping. Normal price is $39.95. After obsessing over it for days I have just ordered my album!! It looks sooooo good, and dare I say it, professional? It will be a great coffee table book~~

If anyone wants an account let me refer you because then I can get 20 free prints ._.

BIRTHDAY WISHLIST
———————————

Here’s another wishlist that I don’t really intend to fulfill because I prefer seeing money in my bank account but oh well.

Tokidoki for Le Sportsac Notte Solid Trenino

Tokidoki for Le Sportsac Notte Solid Braccialetto

Tokidoki for Le Sportsac Notte Solid Zucca (awesome for travelling)

Louis Vuitton Black Epi Pochette Accesoires

Louis Vuitton Manhatten GM

A new iPod screen

Nikon D40 and 18-200mm VR lens…and all the other lenses I mentioned in my other post.

Erm, for some reason that’s *all* I can think of right now. So I’ll this with “Etc.”

And finally, my birthday dinner photos!

I asked my mom to surprise me, and she came up with a menu of my favourite foods.

I had prawn toast, deepfried salmon skin, deep fried gold coin egg tofu, salmon yu sang, steamed oysters in ginger and shallot sauce and finally to round it off there was prawn and scallop ee-mein.

I think homecooked food is still the best
Definitely better than the Japanese (which was ‘meh’ even though the tempura was the best I’ve had, ever) and Lebanese (which was really good!) pre-birthday dinners I had.

The Breakfast Creek Hotel is up for sale
The last square mile of terra firma gavelled in the mail
So farewell to the Norfolk Island pines

Had some of the most awesome dreams yesterday (this morning?). I get the most vibrant dreams when I’m dozing in bed and don’t have to be woken up by the alarm to rush off anywhere

A selection of some of the dreams I had yesterday:

I was travelling with parents in a car driving somewhere in China/Sg enroute to KL (yeah weird). We stopped by at these rest houses because it was 1 am and my parents were too tired to drive anymore. They were small compact units, and you drop in coins in the machine in the little foyer before you enter to pay for your accomodation. Even thouigh it was nice clean and looked new I felt creeped out by the remote location and the fact that there was no one else around. The machine instructed us to “drop in a paper coin”. Whut?

Actually the front part of the building was like one of those chinese/jap altars where you open up the 2 little front doors to see the idol inside. And then I felt a presence. Without us doing anything the machine starting churning out the “receipts”…which looked like those paper money Chinese burn for the dead. I was absolutely freaked out. I said I didn’t care if I had to drive all night, or sleep in the car, I’d rather not stay there.

No amount of make believe can help this heart of mine
End - your dreamworld is just about to end
Fall - your dreamworld is just about to fall
Your dreamworld will fall

I was hanging around waiting to board a ship. But the area I was in was similar to the tarmac one would walk across in Adelaide airport to get to the plane. and the gangplank onto the ship was also similar to those outdoor stairs to planes…
I had a moment of panic when I wasn’t sure if I took along my passport.

So shut that buckle and turn that key again
Take me to a place they say the dreaming never ends
Open wide drive that mystery road

I demanded for Ray to show me his honours thesis. It looked like we were in my current room in Melbourne. He took a plastic file with clear sleeves off my bookshelf and said he couldn’t find the main paper but said I could look at the handwritten bits of paper instead that also formed part of his honours assessment. I was flabbergasted that one could submit handwritten calculations as part of honours assessment. BTW IRL Ray didn’t do honours …

And here’s the pièce de résistance and the reason for me typing up this post in the first place:

I was vacationing in some relative’s place somewhere on southern coast of Australia, I have the feeling it’s in Victoria but geographically that doesn’t make sense either.

The house I was staying in was like my old house in Singapore. The room I was in was similar to my old bedroom.
And I was looking out the window and the clouds cleared and the sun came out and I could see New Zealand (??!!). So many mountains, and all arranged neatly like traffic cones along the coast and further inland. Then to my left on some peninsula there was another cone mountain and then a HUGE mountain growing out the side of it. Like the limbs of a cactus the mountain grew at a steep absolutely vertical angle up and up, towering above all else to end at a rounded peak.

The colours were the most vibrant blue-green. It was practically glowing. I had an overwhelming feeling that it was akin to what the kids in The Last Battle (the last book in the Chronicles of Narnia) felt, when they were past the doorway and in Aslan’s country being able to see further than they had ever seen before, and running through the lands. It was absolutely gorgeous and the most beautiful thing I have seen in my life. Ever.

I tried to snap a couple of shots of it with my V3 but it all slipped away so, so fast…

And then a thick fog rolled in and I couldn’t see anything at all but a lone tree, bare of leaves.

Walk through eden’s garden and then wonder as you go
Sign says honeymoon to rent
Cloudland into dreamland turns
The sun comes up and we all learn
Those wheels must turn

– Dreamland, by Midnight Oil

Ray if you don’t bring it with you when you come to Melbourne I’ll leave you at the airport. No, I’ll *pretend* to pick you up, wait till you load up ALL your bags, then drive off!! :@

Speaking of space wastage, I really can’t figure out why my belongings take up so much space. I’m a simple person (no, really!) So why do I end up with so much crap? I suppose little things add up to a lot. I shouldgo through my stuff and see what I can get rid of them. After I get my sushi cushion prototypes down pat I’ll be mailing them off RIGHT AWAY. They take up so much space >.<

We went to a showhouse built in approximately the same design as the house we're about to build. My room is tinier than I thought >.> My built-in wardrobe is also tiny >.< Which makes getting rid of stuff much more important...

One side benefit of doing all that camera research, even though I decided not to get the Nikon D40 (...yet) is that I'm now technically better able to handle the Sony DSC V3 (thanks Ken Rockwell!). Sorting out my China photos to ready them for uploading/blogging has also made me realise how CRAP my photos in the past were. Composition etcetc is so important. I took bazillions of photos but there were verrrrrry little of good quality. One thing Sushicam taught me is quality, not quantity. Why take so many photos that just end up sitting on your HDD taking up space? Might as well take the time to think about and compose shots properly (I am such a little point-and-shooter). And then when you finally get the photo to your comp, why be afraid/lazy of doing a bit of post-production processing? That’s why Jamie’s photos turn out awesome. Cropping, colour enhancement, maybe a nice rounded border.

I’m too lazy to use PS so I use Google’s Picasa which is so n00b friendly. I love it ^_^.

Speedy 30 Monogram Canvas

Some of you out there know that I love the design of the Louis Vuitton Speedy 30 monogram canvas. Those who know me even better know I’m searching for the HG handbag, having run through a couple and found that they were unsatisfactory because mostly they keep falling apart. Yes, I really trash my bags.

Which is pretty much where LV steps in. I am attracted to the idea of having one bag that is so versatile it can be used for any occasion, look good, and is so durable it can take the trashing I dish out. I think the Speedy will look good for work or more casual out-and-about stuff. LV also has a reputation for durability.

The only thing I don’t like about it is that it is totally not structured enough. It sags terribly (example [I've seen worse though]). Mabelle mentioned once that her friend resorted to putting a piece of cardboard at the bottom of the bag. And while the Speedy 30 monogram canvas is about A$800 (620 USD on eluxury) and is relatively cheap/affordable, I am reluctant to pay that much for a bag that isn’t 100% satisfactory.

I actually complained to the store assistant at LV Melbourne/Crown Casino complex and the SA explained that it was called the “Speedy” because you could fold the bag up and tuck it away until you needed it, and then you’d just bring it out, chuck stuff in and out the door you go. I don’t think that people *now* will use their Speedys like that so please bring some more structure in DX. Or release a more structured special edition MC line DDDX. (UPDATE: I just surfed some purse forums and there are actually people out there who LOVE the saggy look. Unbelievable.)

Nevertheless. I still haven’t found my HG bag and I’m simply spending money on more bags that will be chucked out in a year. It’s sort of like throwing good money after bad.

But first, a brief discussion on the Speedy and its various … variations.

Hit the jump for more.

Speedy 30 Monogram Perfo

I’ve never actually liked LV bags before. I always thought the monogram canvas was toooo flashy. People would just think I was carrying around a fake too. Plus it just didn’t look good to me; it’s so auntie one.

It was Marc Jacobs’ interpretation of the classic Speedy in the guise of the perfo canvas that grabbed my attention - and held it. Those flourescent colours really jazz up the staid and overused monogram canvas. It looks youthful. My favourite is the green <3. I think I chanced upon the bag while perusing through Iamfashion, a fashion blog. DX. That single entry will probably cost me thousands of dollars in the future if I buy everything I want…

Anyway the Speedy perfo is like 2 times more expensive then normal Monogram canvas ._.
Also it’s limited edition and I doubt any LV stores continue to carry it. And you won’t be able to match it with everything and a bit too casual for work.

Oh well. I moved on to noticing how cute the Speedy looked. I don’t really like flat-ish bags. I like volume! So that’s how I came to be a fan of the Speedy line.

Speedy 30 in Damier, Mini Monogram Lin and Multicolore White

I rather like the classic monogram canvas but then again the plain Damier canvas also appeals…however I think it does look a bit auntie too. The Multicolore White I used to think looked cheap but when paired with a really classy well-cut lounge suit (think Armani) looks absolutely smashing. It’s also extremely structured and much more solid in construction than MC/Damier But then you’d always have to wear the bag with elegant etc clothes and that would be too much effort. Yeah, it wouldn’t be versatile. The black multicolore canvas, along with Cerises (the cherries) I dislike to bits and, to quote from Vlad of the purse blog looks like Takashi Murakami puked on them.

The multicolore is $2000+ in Australia. There is no way I’m spending that much on a bag.

Monogram Mini Lin Speedy 30 in ebene is a bit subtler than MC. I really rather like it. It’s darker and more understated. At 675USD, it’s only a bit pricier than MC/Damier. It’s not as common and flashy as well.

Speedy 30 and Alma in Epi Leather

Speeking of understated, another favourite canvas of mine is the Epi Leather line. Its sports textured leather and depending on the bag style is available in a variety of colours. There is a discreet LV logo stamped on the corner of the bag. At 890USD the Epi Soft Speedy 30 is significantly pricier than MC however it is more structured. As I type this entry I’m getting persuaded that this should be the bag to buy after all…I mean it’s all black and thus more versatile than MC, no? It would match perfectly with the black pointed heels I use as my standard work shoes.

I thought I’d just throw in the Alma too . Alma is another classic LV design that is also available in a variety of canvasses. The Alma is a rather nice looking briefcase-ish looking bag. A senior associate at the firm I’m doing work experience in has the Alma in blue Epi leather and it looks reeaaaal nice……….

The Epi Alma is 1090 USD on eluxury.

My conclusion?
Umm…in order of preference:

Speedy 30 Epi leather in black

Speedy 30 Mini Monogram Lin in ebene

Alma Epi leather in black

And so I come round to the point of this entry - gah I’m going to buy an LV bag if it’s the last thing I do! I’ve already trashed 2 bags to bits in the last few months. I was going to just buy a reasonable one, maybe a cellini, from Myers. Probably have to spend $130 at most.

I estimate that I’ve spent $250 on like 6 bags so far. Hey I buy everything on sale that’s why the price is cheap okay! [Actually one of them was an Anna Sui counterfeit from Shenzhen that was about 200RMB. I generally don't buy fakes but I loved it because it was sausage-shaped. It was in denim and it was so cute and perfect for casual outings. Unfortunately when it got all moldy in HK when I went to China. I couldn't get the smell out no matter what and when I got back to Australia I soaked it in a bucked of soapy water for far too long (too lazy to take it out) and after that the zips corroded and couldn't be pulled. When I forced them the corroded bits got shoved off I guess but sometime later the zips just wouldn't stick together anymore. Sigh. Wonder where I can get the real Anna Sui bag. I mean I don't even know if it's an actual design or if they just whacked the logo on.]

The next bag I was looking at getting was this leather one from Witchery. It had really soft buttery leather, similar to the famous Balenciaga ones. $185. So that would take my bag spend total to $435. That’s more than halfway to a Speedy MC.

What I propose is a Speedy fund XD
I’ll just hold off on buying stuff till the total of my unbought purchases totals a Epi Speedy (._.)
Maybe that will make me feel better about buying. Oh hey my birthday’s around the corner (JULY!!!) too so feel free to contribute to my Speedy fund!!

Unbought stuff so far:

Witchery handbag $185

Fiorelli overnight bag $130

Total: $315
Target: ~1063 AUD for Epi Speedy

(And after this I want to buy an LV change holder in red Epi! Although I am against spending so much money that you have nothing left to put into your new wallet…Okay I need a job.)

Also! The main reason why I find it fascinating is that indo mee, while very popular in south east Asia, and among Asian students in general (you can see them buy cartons of the poison from Asian grocery marts) is not that common in the normal mainstream big chain supermarkets in Australia. Is this indomee’s new marketing strategem to crack into the Australian mainstream diet?!

LV accessory box and men’s casual jewellry that I think would look nice on him.

Siew May has a couple of Louis Vuitton catalogues which is balls of fun to look through. You really get a sense of true luxury from them. My favourite section is the old skool lugagge/trunks bit. I love that air of old world travel style.

When I was younger (oh I feel so old now, I might as well say “When I was a young girl…”) I used to love the ultra-modern ultra minimalist interior design styles. I liked cheerful, bright furniture too and it was always a hard toss-up between having a bleak concrete room with one metal chair in the corner and having cheerfully bright red star-shaped furry cushions. I did have a hankering for traditional authentic Japanese styles too. One thing I couldn’t really bring myself to admit to liking though were really traditional styles like British country house and French Louis XVI (er..not too sure which number it was)/decadence style.

Then as I grew older I begun to appreciate these traditional styles more. But not much more. But I had definitely moved away from the cold ultra minimalist styles (not bleeding practical I tend not to tidy up after myself). My preference most definitely moved towards authentic traditional Japanese with a side serve of traditional Song/Han Chinese.

It’s only really been in the last month that I’ve turned into a full-blown fan of French decadence/traditional European furniture. Luxury! Bulky furniture! Velvet satin and silk ahoy! Siew May’s house is full of fine furniture and the new upholstery she put on some old furniture is simply divine~ I love the leather Chesterfield sofa too~~

Also I guess watching Marie Antoinette just brought it all to a head. Will I actually furnish my rooms in this style when I get my own house? Unlikely though since the cost would be prohibitive and there is more matching and coordinating going on. It’s still not very practical from that perspective (one reason why I like simplicity and minimalism is that I’m just too lazy to coordinate all my furniture PLUS I’m too poor to buy all that too. Two birds with one stone!). But, you know, I’m warming up to the idea. Maybe further on down the track…when I build my mansion, one room could be like a Jane Austen drawing room…and I could have a full tea service and serve jam and scones! Muhaha!

LV Monogram Perle Earring pendant and necklace pendant

I love these. They look so pretty and feminine and elegant! And it’s not screaming out “LV!!” as so many branded goods are wont to do.

Sigh. I don’t feel like updating my shoe catalogue

I only found out about Harbourtown about a year ago, and got to visit only a few days ago!
It’s a big clearance warehouse thingy franchise like DFO (direct factory outlet) commonly built around airports.

I tried on lots of clothes but due to my *ahem* unstandard figure I couldn’t buy all the pieces I wanted. Which was just as well, really since I’m broke. I was being really restrained too. And now that I’ve compiled my wardrobe catalogue I know what pieces I have that are similar to do one I’m looking at. “Hang on, I already have something similar to this, do I really need another pair of denim shorts!” And that really helps with resisting the buying urge.

This black and white cocktail dress from Garfunkle is absolutely gorgeous. I love the bold stripes. (Didn’t buy though, had stains and only one left DX)…$135, bargain!
Barkins knit cardigan. Love the casual style, and I can still wear it to work. Now I just have to wait for the weather to cool down.

As all of you know (yes, all 2 of you readers of my blog), I’m relocating to Melbourne. That necessarily involves packing up all my possessions in the world. Most notably my wardrobe. After complaining to Jamie about the mountains of clothes I had to fold, she said, in a rather cryptic fashion: “Oh, there’s a shortcut. Didn’t you know? You just pinch two places and it folds itself”. Then she ran away and left me to google it.

So here’s the result of my googling: the original “how to fold a shirt” video!
