Just watched it at IMAX.
And I actually really enjoyed it!

This is surprising, as I’ve always been more of a Star Wars person.
The last couple of SW movies, ie the prequels, so craptaculated my memory of the original SW movies though, that the success of the latest ST is doubly sad.

I really enjoyed the fact that John Cho was in it, because I kept thinking of Harold from Harold and Kumar, and of course that Zachary Quinto was in it and he really DID look like Spock, and the weird film incest Heroes double connection – Cho’s character Sulu was first played by George Takei in Star Trek: The Original Series who plays Hiro’s dad in Heroes. And it was pretty cool that the original Spock (Leonard Nimoy) came back to play the older Spock character!

I still wouldn’t watch the other ST tv series/movies. I remember catching bits of it from time to time on TV and it would bore me to tears. I also skimmed over the ST wiki and the wikis on Kirk, Spock, etc and…well I think I’ll just leave the rest alone.
