When I was in Japan, I had the most wonderful dish in the world.
MENTAIKO OMURICE
“明太子オムライス”
I can’t remember how much it was, but it was cheap. It couldn’t have been more than 1000 yen.
I think I had it at some omurice store at the restaurant-gai (restaurant floor) of sun-something-or-other city at Ikebukuro.
Beautiful, absolutely beautiful.
It’s next to impossible trying to find English language information on mentaiko omurice. I had to search in Japanese.
I found a recipe that I will have use as a starting point as I didn’t see any others. It doesn’t exactly look like the standard mentaiko omurice.
In other mentaiko-related trivia, did you know my daily breakfast, lunch or snack combini onigiri was almost invariably mentaiko-flavoured?
