We went to Shenzhen the other Saturday with a friend of one of Ray’s aunties. She’s like a Shenzhen shopping expert…it was very fun indeed. I didn’t really get to take many photos though because we were warned not to - we’d be targeted and then have our cameras stolen off us at a more opportune time.
I bought quite alot of this and that. You have to bargain everywhere. It’s really quite fun and interesting in a very dangerous way.
For example, there was this store selling really well made counterfeit branded handbags like prada, gucci, etc - called “A fo” (A [quality] goods). But the shop walls are all platered up with newspapre so you can’t see in. They only let you in if they recognise your face, and they also make sure the coast is clear before they let you out/in.
Also, if you want to look at the selection of dvds a particular store has to offer, they will ask you to come into the stall and then roll down all the shutters before they bring out the goods.
It’s so China! It’s so interesting! None of this “normal” shopping for me~~
So full of character it is.
And that was just the really big mall next to the border. It’s very clean and safe by Chinese standards. All the Hongkees go there. So imagine how much more “enjoyable” going into Shenzhen proper would be…
Anyway, the rest of the photos I took from that day are here
By the way, I’m in Singapore at the moment - just flew in this Monday (14th march). Almost didn’t make it…missed the flight so had to buy another one for that day…so expensive compared to the price of the original flight!! ARGH!
I’ve returned very briefly to KL as well…
…And then I got really sick. Getting sick while on holidays (especially a super-short one) is so bad >_>
