starbucks just opened on HKU the other day. there was a massive queue. i thought it was weird that some1 would wait that long just to try out something knew. starbucks couldn’t have had such a great reputation here, could it?
click here for a video of the que …lol. i was really bored.
but you can also see bits of my uni (the library is right behind the que) in the video too.
well it turned out that they were offering free coffees until 2pm
.
i guess when it comes to free stuff…chinese people simply cannot resist. it reminds me of economics too. when the price is low, below the market price, demand will shoot up. of course, if there is no increase in supply, there will b massive over-demand…under-supply….
watch the queue man! economics in action!
lol. anyway, since i had 15 mins to kill n between lessons that day, i took some photos of hku. mouse over for captions.

the other day on campus tv..i saw this music video the committe shot. i thought it was very amusing. they used the song ‘excuse’ by jay chou (one of the most popular mando-pop artists in asia). they also had the song lyrics running underneath as subtytles, normal mv style. they played iht after valentines day. they filmed this guy getting his heart broken by this girl because of something or other. but they used all the cheesy cliched shots and stuff. i guess it was like…consolation for the ppl who didn’t have a very enjoyable vday…
oh yeah. bcos hk island is so hilly, alot of buildings r built in a very convulted way. there r hidden entrances n stuuf..like u have to go thru one building to get to another building. there r excessive amounts of stairs n escalators. there’s even a series of escalators leading from the central district to the mid-levels! (apparantly they were in some wonsg kar-wai film as well)
hku is no different. there is one building (meng wah complex) dedicated almost solely to elevators n stairs. i wouldn’t like to be a blind/leg disabled person here). of course, they only have ‘up’ escalators. u have to use the stairs if u wanna walk down.
the KK leung buiding doesn’t have a well-defined front entrance.
the ‘main’ entrance (see photo) is sort of sandwiched between the KKL building itself and the knowles building. there is no normal…”ah, i see a building, n if i walk around it long enuff, i’ll spot the main entrance” thing. it is impossible to walk completely around most of these buildings (unless u wanna do rock climbing). it’s not too bad once you know theway…but if u had no guide it would all b really confusing. hohoho i spent one day getting lost on campus
.
oh yeah. what is t wth law depts n asian lang depts going together? in AU the top floor of the law dept was occupied by the asian language dept. in hku some floors of the law building are occupied by the asian lang depts…plus i have all my cantonese classes there too.
well..basically i only have classes in 2 buildings (kk leung and the knowles building, which is next door.) very convenient.
